Release Shoulder Knots & Neck Tightness
Tight, sore neck & shoulders is the most common problem I see in my chiropractic office in Barcelona, but actually involves two aspects–contracted, tight muscle AND spinal joint restriction. Any effective treatment to loosen the area needs to address both parts. But what can you do to help the process?
These combination exercises to loosen tight shoulders use two or three exercises in one, making them really quick and effective on shoulder knots.
Trigger Point Release AND Mobilisation
The first exercise uses Ischaemic Contraction–the pressure of a tennis ball to release trigger points/knots in the shoulders–but adds a muscle stretch which also mobilises spinal joints.
Eccentric Contraction really relaxes muscles
The second exercise again stretches the muscles and mobilises joints, but adds repetitive eccentric contractions which are a fabulous way to really loosen the shoulders.
It only takes about three minutes to do both of these exercises. Do them at the end of the day to relax your shoulders and undo all the tension that desk work causes in your neck.
But remember, we need to address the cause and chronic knots come from poor (forward head) posture, so check out my posture video.
