What to avoid wearing to visit a chiropractor:

Thick sweaters or ‘polo neck’ tops unless you have a thin shirt or t-shirt underneath so you can take off the outer top.

Tight, high-rise jeans, especially if there are lots of studs and buttons.

Short dresses. (A modesty sheet can be used though.)

What to wear to visit a chiropractor:

A t-shirt or thin, open collar shirt.

Loose pants, tracksuit pants, or yoga pants.

You will usually be asked to remove:

Belts.

Long earrings.

Thick or ‘polo-neck’ tops.

(All the clutter from your pockets.)

You can wear what you like to see a chiropractor—we can work around most clothing. But it is easier for a chiropractor if you have thin, loose clothing, especially underneath other clothes in winter. A t-shirt and a pair of tracksuit pants is perfect.

Thick sweaters are the hardest to feel the spine through. A chiropractor will ask you to take off a thick top, especially if they are made of wool, padded material, or leather. Tight “Turtle-neck” or “polo neck” tops make it hard to feel and adjust the neck, so avoid tops that are tight around your neck. (You can wear these tops though if you have a t-shirt or open neck shirt underneath. And you can take off the polo neck top.)

Should I wear a bra to the chiropractor?

A lot of people ask this, but bras are fine and don’t need to be removed. Chiropractors can feel around a bra strap in the mid-back, or move it up or down slightly if that particular area is important.

Do you have to take your pants off for chiropractor?

No. If you are wearing tight or thick pant like a pair of jeans the chiropractor may ask you to unbutton the top button. This gives access to the top of pelvis. (It’s hard to feel joint through jeans.) The chiropractor will only lower the jeans slightly. However, any thick belts will need to be removed.
