Once Chiropractors “put the bones back in place” is it fixed?
“Why do chiropractors make you keep coming back?”
Many people tend to think that a chiropractor “puts the spine back into place”, so once they’re ‘back in place’ that should be it, but the reality is that chiropractors are loosening restricted joints where the surrounding muscles have adapted to the poor function. If these joints have become restricted over a long period of time, it takes time to re-train the joints and muscles to adjust to a properly range of motion again. Just like with the gym, it takes time for the body to adapt to the changes.
The joints loosen with every session but if the problem has been there for years it will tend to become tighter again between sessions. So, right at the start of chiropractic care most chiropractor will tend to see new clients 1, 2 or even 3 times a week to start with for long term problems.
Over time, as things improves the frequency lessens. Keep in mind though, every day, things like stress, poor positions and posture, prolonged sitting, forward head posture etc can add to the problem, making the job more difficult. So what you do each day can have a profound influence on the amount of session you need.
Maintenance Chiropractic Care
Once the outcome is achieved, the stress and activities of each day can work to undo the work, so many people find they need to come in regularly (eg. once a month) to maintain the improvements. It’s their choice but they chose to because they feel the difference a healthy spine makes to their wellbeing. Maintenance care is like brushing your teeth or going to the gym regularly—it’s a health care choice.
