Chiropractic for Children
I’m often asked in my chiropractic center in Barcelona whether chiropractic care is ok for children. My answer is always the same, “Yes, there is never a more important time!” Here is why…
When chiropractors complete a chiropractic examination for children, we check the movement and function of the spinal joints. The examination is simple, comfortable, and gentle. Vertebrae in the spine can sometimes become restricted and cease moving properly. These jammed vertebrae can also irritate the central nervous system. Chiropractors can feel this dysfunction in a spinal examination and it should be corrected for two reasons.
- Dysfunctional spines can affect the nerves that run through the spinal canal—the central nervous system. The central nervous system controls everything in the whole body, including our growth, development, learning, co-ordination etc.
- Often these vertebrae will free up by themselves, but occasionally this joint restriction can become long term/chronic. This is never good but especially so in babies and kids. Why? Because a ‘subluxated’ or jammed spinal joint will have uneven forces on it AND babies and children are always growing and developing. Imagine a child’s spine growing and developing while it has dysfunctional joint movement and uneven forces on it. How will the spine develop?
Both the chiropractic examination and treatment of children is extremely gentle. I always show you exactly what I do to make sure you are comfortable with it before doing anything. I make sure to always make it fun, so kids look forward to coming!
Chiropractic is for any age. I have worked on hundreds of children and babies, and had patients from 10 days old to 97 years old. All that needs to change is the techniques, which are different for every age.
