To understand Chiropractic, understand it’s history…
Chiropractic began on September 18, 1895, when Daniel David Palmer of Iowa, USA, performed the first chiropractic adjustment which restored the hearing of janitor, Harvey Lillard. Palmer had been studying the spine and was fascinated by the relationship between the spinal movement and the spines ability to protect the nerves descending from the brain.
The spine has two (compromising) functions:
1. Protect the spinal cord and nerves that pass down from the brain.
The brain controls everything in the body. The messages from the brain reach the body via nerves that pass down the spinal canal and out between the vertebrae
2. Allow movement of the trunk and neck
It is the need to allow movement in the spine that compromises its ability to perfectly protect the nerves. As vertebrae and the discs flex and move, or become damaged, they can encroach on, or irritate, the nerves travel through it. So, it makes sense that maintaining a well-functioning and moving spine is essential to protect the nerves that carry vital information between the brain and body.
The brain is like a computer that controls the entire body, and the nerves are the cables that supply this information to the body. Compromise the nerves and you compromise the whole system.

D.D. Palmer believed that when the central nervous system (brains and nerve system) functioned at 100% the body would always be healthy. He often stated that “The power that made the body (the innate intelligence of the body) can heal the body” as long as there is no interference to the central nervous system controlling everything.
A lot of people come to chiropractors for back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and headaches, but many of them continue their chiropractic care as a regular spinal maintenance system because they notice an improvement in their general health and well-being.
